ABOUT the show

Welcome to Mean Girls, the brutally hilarious musical from book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). This queen bee took Broadway by storm and has joined the musical in-crowd. Adapted from Fey's hit 2004 film, Mean Girls was nominated for a staggering 12 Tony Awards.

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.

Auditions - Monday, May 1 from 6-9pm

Participants should plan to attend the full three hours. All actors will have a chance to sing, do some acting, and learn a short and fun dance combination. We will play a few theatre games, too!

PREPARING FOR YOUR AUDITION

We want you to have fun! Please prepare:

  • An introduction: Tell us your name, age, and what you’ll be performing today!

  • A contemporary monologue (2 minutes or less): Don’t be afraid to make strong physical and vocal choices. We are looking for character growth and storytelling in your piece.

  • A vocal audition: 60-90 seconds of you singing to an instrumental karaoke track, from a musical other than the one we are doing. Pick something that shows off your voice and lets you get into character. You’re welcome to make up dance moves and make acting choices while you sing.

Callbacks - Sunday, May 7th from 1-5pm

After auditions, we may need to see a few actors again. In that case, actors should plan to attend callbacks. Callbacks are a fun opportunity to meet your fellow cast members, work with your director, and take a stab at acting scenes from the show. Callbacks will start with theatre warm-ups and games. Music and sides will be provided before callbacks so students can prepare.

CAMP ROTATIONS

Rehearsal, acting class, choreography, vocal rehearsals, costumes, props, hair, makeup, and age-specific workshops exploring the themes of the show.

CASTING THE SHOW

We want to see what each actor brings to the table! Our team of directors and designers will use your auditions to craft the world of our production with the goal of offering a fun and challenging program specifically for the group of students who sign up.

PERFORMANCES

We will perform our show three times! Family members will be able to purchase tickets to performances. We will also have the chance to perform an “Access Preview” for a neurodiverse audience during our Thursday preview.
