About Summer Internship Program

Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory's high school internship program provides invaluable artistic training to young theatre makers, building a sense of community that will remain foundational long after the end of summer. We offer opportunities to experience the inner-workings of theatre production from every angle. Each of our internships includes a uniquely hands-on experience coupled with mentorship and professional development.

Interns are integral to PVTC's summer camp experience. Over the course of a full camp session Interns will work in various departments and gain valuable professional skills building strong relationships with students and staff. Internships offer leadership experience and are designed to provide interns participants with training, support, and experience needed to achieve personal and career goals.

What To Know Before Applying:

New in 2023: Departments & Specialties

If you've applied to be an intern with PVTC before, you may notice that the internship application is looking a little different this year! This summer, we will be assigning interns into "Departments", to ensure that interns get plenty of great experience. Applicants can still let us know if they wish to have a "specialty" within that department. Interns will likely be working with multiple amazing mentors this summer, learning various skills and tools within their department.

Important Dates To Remember

  • Internship applications are due March 17, 2023. Interns who submit their application on-time will have priority in consideration for intern placement and assignments. This summer we may not be able to accommodate every applicant.

  • Interviews for new interns will be held from March 20-April 7. If you are a new applicant, our Intern Coordinator, Lizzie Chapman, will reach out to set up an interview prior to intern assignments.

  • Intern Training will take place on select Saturday mornings in May & June. These trainings are mandatory for all interns. We ask that you do everything you can to attend.

  • Goal setting meetings will occur in May & June, and will be scheduled individually with the intern coordinator, interns, and their mentor. These 15-30 minute meetings are also mandatory.

Junior Staff Positions

For those recently graduated seniors and college students looking for a larger leadership challenge, you are welcome to apply for a junior staff position in lieu of an internship by filling out an application form.

High School Youth Council

ABOUT THE YOUTH COUNCIL

At PVTC, we are proud to offer numerous leadership programs for our High School aged students. From our after-school Internship Program to our NEW High School Youth Council, we seek to offer numerous opportunities for our students to use their voice, build community, and make a difference to the PVTC community and beyond.

The PVTC Youth Council is a new leadership program for high school students who wish to have a voice in PVTC’s programming and footprint on the world. Participants will engage in conversations around I.D.E.A. initiatives, social media output, and show selection. Youth Council members will also organize social events, workshops, fundraisers and field trips for the high school community. At PVTC, we look forward to this program and truly giving our high schoolers an opportunity to lead with strength and move PVTC forward towards a fun, engaging and inclusive place for all.

MEETINGS

The PVTC Youth Council plans to meet the First Tuesday of each month, beginning with our first meeting on October 4th from 5 - 6:30pm. Students can Zoom into meetings if attending school out of the area or otherwise unable to attend in-person. Participants will be expected to attend at least two meetings per quarter and volunteer for PVTC for at least two hours per quarter outside of meeting times.

Volunteer hours are available to all participants for all meetings and participation.
