ABOUT Devising: Into The Extraordinary
What if doorways between worlds existed, doorways of stardust, stories, and secrets? How might travelers between worlds find places to belong? Using inspiration from Shaun Tan’s The Arrival and other portal fantasies, cast members will be both actors and playwrights as we develop a band-new world premiere show!
In this two-week camp, students will build vibrant characters and worlds through improvisation, storytelling, and imagination. We will also work with a guest artist to explore strategies for telling stories in words and images and create individual ‘zines. We will share our final production with our audience in our beautiful redwood grove on the final day of camp.
Auditions - May 4th from 4-6pm
We want to see what each actor brings to the table! Our team of directors and designers will use your audition to craft the world of our play with the goal of offering a fun and challenging program specifically for the group of students who sign up. Each actor should prepare:
An introduction: Tell us your name, age, and what you will be performing
A poem or monologue (1 minute or less): We prefer this to be a memorized piece. We encourage you to make vocal and physical choices to show off a character. Have fun with it!
30-60 seconds of you doing something that you love to do. Whether this is soccer or singing, playing with a yo-yo, doing cartwheels, or playing an instrument, we cannot wait to see your hidden talents!
There are no callbacks for Devising Camp.
CAMP ROTATIONS
Rehearsal, acting class, choreography, vocal rehearsals, costumes, props, hair, makeup, and age-specific workshops exploring the themes of the show.
