ABOUT "BEYOND OUR WILDEST DREAMS: A SITE -SPECIFIC PLAY"
At this in-person camp, students will meet in our beautiful redwood grove to create a piece of theatre that's based on the unique characteristics of the space.
Early in camp, students will explore our specific site and begin to create engaging characters through devising games, process dramas, and viewpoints work. Campers will also learn about existing practices in creating site-specific work, expanding students' definitions of "theatre." With a strong foundation, we'll create a script from scratch, featuring the unique skills of every camper. Then, we'll transition to rehearsals for socially-distant, outdoor performances. In addition to rehearsals and script development, students will participate in design rotations to create specific projects for our show. This camp will be an awesome opportunity for campers to dive into a new way of making theatre!
Rehearsal, acting class, devising/writing, design courses based on needs of the project, inclusivity in theatre discussions.
We want to see what each actor brings to the table! Our team of directors and designers will use this information to plan for “In Our Wildest Dreams: A Site-Specific Play” with the goal of offering fun and challenging programming specifically for the group of students who sign up. Each actor is asked to submit a video that includes:
An introduction: Tell us your name
A monologue (1-2 minutes long): This should be a memorized piece. We encourage you to make vocal and physical choices to show off a character. Have fun with it! Not sure where to start? Check out resources here
A video tour (1 minute long): This show is all about interacting with a specific space, so we’d love to see one of YOUR favorite spaces. In a minute or less, please film a video tour of a safe site that you love (your room, the kitchen, a treehouse, a route along your favorite walk). Show us some of the unique things about this space! Have fun with it!
*Weekly Charitable Contribution Request -Support Teaching Artists & Scholarship Students:
We request families who are able to contribute an additional $200/week per camper.
Tuition does not cover all camp-related expenses. These valuable tax-deductible donations allow PVTC to offer a livable wage to the teaching artists who pour their energy and passion into campers. Returning families will know the importance of the connection between PVTC staff members and students/interns who form positive lasting relationships through the years. Teaching artists are committed to developing artists and individuals and give extra care to each student to inspire and guide them. They are the heart of PVTC. Help us support these artists in the incredible work they do.
Further, PVTC is committed to offering programming to all students regardless of financial need. Tax-deductible contributions ensure we can keep theatre accessible.
