THEATRE CLASSES

Overview of PVTC Children’s Programs

At PVTC, we believe that theatre does remarkable things for each individual child. We are committed to helping every student realize their full creative potential. We celebrate diversity and offer classes to all children without exception. To that end, we have three after-school training programs that serve children of all abilities and levels of interests. These programs are called Lights Up!, STAGES, and Performance Ensemble.I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. Lights Up! Classes

For students in grades PreK-8th  interested in a playful theatrical exploration

Lights Up! classes provide fun and creative introductions to acting by using theatre games to build performance skills. Theatre games are an essential vehicle for unlocking creativity and working on character and story development in an engaging way. As part of an ensemble, we expect students to be team players, to bring their creativity to class, and to have fun. Students in LIGHTS UP! perform a play or performance piece at the end of their session based on a children's book or folktale. Lights Up! classes are held in the fall, winter, and spring quarters.

STAGES Ensembles

For students in grades 3-8 seeking a deep theatriacl challenge

STAGES ensembles are designed for young performers who are serious about theatre as an art form and who want to make a deep commitment to artistic growth. In addition to having a passion for performing arts, students must also demonstrate enthusiasm for working with a group. They must make theatre a priority in their lives by attending classes and workshops regularly, by memorizing lines and blocking promptly, and by participating in rehearsals with an inquisitive spirit. They must be able to focus, collaborate, listen, and share ideas. Of course, we seek students who love to play, use their imaginations, and challenge themselves physically and vocally. Entry by auditon only. STAGES ensembles are offered in the fall, winter, and spring quarters.

Performance Ensemble (Grades 5-6) and Advanced Performance Ensemble (Grades 7-9) are open by invitation only to students who have gone above and beyond to grow as artists, coming in for class consistently prepared, developing interesting characters, and making a deep commitment to working as an ensemble. Students will work in small groups to explore character development and scene setting each week, as well as rehearse larger projects throughout the year. This program is very student-driven, and we expect that professionalism and attendance is at its highest. There are sevearl performance opportunities throughout the year, including one-acts, a 24-hour musical, and a project chosen by the students. Performance Ensembles meet throughout the whole school year, beginning in September and ending in June.
