MUSICAL THEATRE SUMMER CAMP
Musical Theatre Summer Camp 2014: Guys and Dolls, Jr.
Session I: June 16-July 13, 2014
Session II: July 15-August 10, 2014
We will be calling each camper to let them know about their role(s) by Friday, June 6. While that may seem like a long ways away, it sometimes takes us that long to be able to see everyone for their callback and to look at all of the puzzle pieces.
As most of you know, casting is a huge challenge and we spend many hours as a staff ensuring that every camper will have a role that both challenges them and highlights their strengths. Sometimes casting can be very exciting for campers; sometimes it can be disappointing. Please help us out - when your child does receive a call from us, be there to celebrate and support them!
Once casting phone calls have been made, you will receive an email with information about costume basics for your child’s character. Each camper is asked to provide basics like shoes, shirts, pants, etc. Costumes should come to camp LABELED with your child’s name on the first day.
If you have any 1940’s style accessories, like hats, hair pieces, student-sized coats or dresses, jewelry, etc., and you’re willing to let PVTC us it for the summer, go ahead and bring that, too. Any items that you want returned should be clearly labeled with your family’s name on them.
STRUCTURE OF CAMP
In addition to rehearsing the musical onstage, students will attend daily rotations in small groups, where they will learn about different aspects of theatre. These areas include acting, dance, music, costume design, scenic design, and special projects. We also invite guest artists to teach special workshops. For example, in the past we have offered a very popular stage combat class, a dialects class, a clowning class, and a dramaturgy class.
In addition to our emphasis on theatre, we focus on another co-curricular goal during camp.
Portola Valley Children’s Theatre Conservatory encourages families to share in the creativity and fun of a production. During the summer program, each family is expected to sign up for at least one volunteer opportunity that assist us either through personal time or supplies. Your help allows for our summer staff to be fully available to our students for any last-minute questions. A sign-up sheet with job descriptions will be emailed out prior to camp.
TICKETS & SEATING
At auditions, you received an envelope for ticket orders. After discussing the ticketing process with both Session I and Session II families, the merits of online vs. paper ordering, and the challenge of making sure everyone has an equal opportunity to purchase tickets, we have come up with a new ticketing system for this year. Please note that every camper is limited to 8 tickets to start. Once every family has had a chance to order tickets, if there are extras available, we will offer more tickets to those who want them. Please ask Stacie if you have questions.
