Learn the FUNdamentals of acting through these playfully creative classes, designed especially for our youngest artists and those new to theatre.

Our winter theme is The Greener Earth. In these lively and touching stories, students will roll up their sleeves to make the world a better place. Students will have a blast playing theatre games that encourage collaboration and teamwork while also building acting skills using voice, body, and imagination.

In this creative and active class, students will use storybooks as inspiration to explore body, voice, and imagination. Additionally, young actors will use theatre to better understand and communicate ideas and emotions.

While out exploring one day, they discover a struggling group of weeds and decide to take care of them. With help of the sun, rain, and their green thumbs, the garden spreads throughout the gray city, inspiring the residents of this dreary world to come out and help. Time Commitment

Students attend one class per week for 10 weeks. PVTC offers two sessions annually: one in fall and one in winter/spring. If your schedule

allows, we recommend that students enroll in both sessions to gain the strongest theatre foundations possible, though students may enroll for just one session.

Lights Up! classes provide actors with the necessary foundations for creating a character and stage picture, making strong acting choices, and working together as an ensemble. Students learn these skills through age-appropriate games that are simultaneously fun and challenging. Scripts are often inspired by stories that are currently popular with each age group, such as Harry Potter, Frozen, or favorite fairy tales.

Performance Opportunities

On the final day of each session, Lights Up! acting students demonstrate the skills they have learned in a showcase, which could include acting warm-ups, games, a short play, and/or a song. This performance takes place on the intimate stage in Lane Hall Theatre with theatre lighting and simple costuming.

Class Size

Class size ranges from 5-12 actors. This small size guarantees that each student will receive personalized attention from the teaching artist, but also has the experience of working collaboratively with fellow actors.

Tuition is $250/session for ten classes.
