Ongoing Creative Practices

PVTC recognizes that, as an arts education organization, we have the unique opportunity to engage with anti-racist, justice-based work through a unique lens. These efforts are ever-evolving to respond to the national conversation around:

  • Artistic Process PVTC has included a wider range of voices, including board, staff, and interns, into our show selection and casting processes. We strive to make identity conscious casting decisions and to engage with members of marginalized communities to tell stories with greater integrity.

  • Co-Curricular Programming We are committed to weaving I.D.E.A. conversations into all of our future production work, from summer camp to after school classes to MainStage performances. Past work in this area has included hiring a Chinese cultural consultant for our work on Mulan Jr., collaborating with a Jewish storyteller to produce Fiddler on the Roof with integrity, and collaborating with local community activists who work with neurodiverse students for our production of Distracted. Programming plans for summer 2022 include social justice superhero comics alongside Squirrel Girl and anti-ableist creative drama exercises alongside Frozen.

  • We See You White American Theater The I.D.E.A. Committee and staff teams are actively working to incorporate applicable demands of the We See You White American Theater movement into our programs.
