Statement of Inclusion

PVTC is committed to creating an artistic space where all feel welcome, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, creed, disability, financial circumstance, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We acknowledge the historical biases that have left marginalized communities out and recognize that equity can only be fully achieved by addressing these biases. We strive to uplift and promote all communities in our artistic endeavors.

Organizational Structure

PVTC recognizes that our structure upholds traditional (and therefore exclusionary) theatre-making and education practices. As a result, we’re working to reshape our organization and bring more voices to the table.

Capacity Building & Training

PVTC recognizes that a key step in our I.D.E.A. efforts is to ensure that every member of our team has the resources they need to engage in the work. We’ve implemented several new opportunities to learn.

Creative Practices

​PVTC recognizes that, as an arts education organization, we have the unique opportunity to engage with anti-racist, justice-based work through a unique lens. These efforts are ever-evolving to respond to the national conversation around

Accessibility

PVTC recognizes that traditional theatres practices are often ableist. We are committed to revamping programs in order to be more inclusive for participants and community members with disabilities or other access needs.

Financial Equity

PVTC recognizes that Portola Valley and the surrounding areas represent a primarily upper and upper-middle class population. We are committed to programming our doors to community members from all financial backgrounds.

Accountability

PVTC recognizes inclusion is a verb – it is active and ongoing, and we will always be working to create a more inclusive culture. Accountability is a key part of this work.

Land Acknowledgement

Located in the midst of beautiful redwood forest 40 minutes south of San Francisco, Portola Valley rests on the unceded lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone people. Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory recognizes that we currently benefit from living and working on their traditional homelands, and we affirm their sovereign rights as first peoples. 


The Association of Ramaytush Ohlone is a great resource to learn more about the history of the Ramaytush people and to engage with the Ohlone community’s ongoing work. For those not indigenous to this land, you can also pay the Yanukin Land Tax to support Ramaytush preservation and rematriation efforts.
