We offer in-school residency programs based on the technique of process drama.
Our basic class structure is one 50 minute visit per week for four weeks.
Why Process Drama?
- Fully integrated lessons teach not only solid theatre skills but also core curriculum matter in an engaging and creative way.
- Activities allow for full class participation, minimizing “audience time.”
- Simulates real-life experiences, creating opportunities for developing critical thinking and collaboration skills.
How does it work?
- A teaching artist visits a classroom for a minimum of four weekly 50 minute visits. The program can also be done in eight and ten week increments.
- The teaching artist facilitates as the students take on a role which allows them to be “experts.” (For instance, they may become scientists or detectives.)
- In their expert roles, students tackle problems which the teaching artist introduces each week. These challenges draw upon core curriculum matter as well as theatre skills.
- The final class provides a “performative experience” in which the students wrap up the story they have created as a class. They are both the performers and the audience.
- We also offer workshops for teachers that introduce theatre strategies to use in the classroom that support reading and writing skills.
